Over the decades, we have seen a host of top players emerging from the African continent with a lot of them making it to Europe and establishing themselves as elite players. We have seen legends of the game like Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, George Weah, and even Roger Milla take center stage and represent some of the biggest football clubs in world football with their outstanding and raw sporting talent.
Even though the names mentioned above and a lot others have hung their boots and stopped playing football, the trend of Africa producing top talents has not ended and as a matter of fact, it is still being preserved. A very typical example of the importance of some African players to a top European club is the story of SadioMané and Mohamed Salah at Premier League side Liverpool. Both players have catapulted the Anfield club to the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles in recent years with their Supreme talents.
The English League also boasts of a host of other top African stars like Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez who is a key player for the Etihad club. And of course, you have Edouard Mendy and Hakim Ziyech sporting Chelsea Football Club’s blue colors.
Outside England, IsmaëlBennace and Franck Kessié have also become integral stars for Italian Serie A side AC Milan and they share the same league with Napoli center-back KalidouKoulibaly.
The African Team of The Decade lineup does not include Drogba and Eto’o, but it is as a result of the high level of competition in the side. Andre Ayew makes it to the lineup due to his blistering form since during his days at Marseille. The team really boasts of top players and one worthy of competing for a Champions League title.
